The Formula Drift finale returned to Irwindale Speedway on October 10th and 11th with record crowds gathered to watch the best of the best compete for the last time in 2013. In other words, this was a “do or die” type of event.
Round 7 couldn’t have started any better than with ALL of Seibon Carbon’s Formula Drift drivers qualifying for the Top 32.

Intensity grew as the event progressed after Seibon Carbon drivers Daigo Saito, Chris Forsberg, Robbie Nishida, Darren McNamara, Ryan Tuerck, and Fredric Aasbo made it into Top 16.  All of these drivers are perfect “ingredients” for an unforgettable event.
One of the most anticipated battles of Top16 was 2012 Formula Drift Champion Daigo Saito against 2013 championship points leader Michael Essa.

Due to mechanical troubles with Essa’s vehicle, Daigo was able to step into the Great 8 after making a single pass of the track.
In the Great 8 Daigo Saito would face fellow Seibon Carbon driver Chris Forsberg, the round was pivotal in deciding who would be the 2013 champion because if Daigo took the round then Mike Essa would be the champion, but if Forsberg won then he would still be in championship contention.

Daigo was determined and focused as the two champions met, and that drive and determination paid off as Saito was victorious and headed to the Final four, where he would meet one of his two Achilles team mates.
The Achilles/Seibon Carbon team mate Daigo would go up against in Final 4 was Robbie Nishida. Both have not met in battle all season so this battle was extremely exciting for fans and the two drivers alike.

Daigo took the win, which guaranteed him a spot on the podium and Robbie headed for the consolation round, where he would fight Forrest Wang for third place.
In the finals it was Daigo against Tyler McQuarrie, with both drivers prepared to leave nothing on the table in this last round of competition in 2013.  Unfortunately for McQuarrie, he drove his Camaro into the wall and therefore making him unable to continue.  For the second time in a row, Daigo Saito stood on top of the podium at the House of Drift, winning Round 7 of Formula Drift!
Daigo’s Round 7 win moved him up in the overall championship to finish in 3rd place!

Second place in the overall 2013 Formula Drift Championship went to Seibon Carbon driver Chris Forsberg. Michael Essa finished in first place in the championship.
Seibon Carbon would like to congratulate Chris Forsberg, Daigo Saito, and all of its sponsored drivers for a successful 2013 Formula Drift season.  This year we saw numerous podium finishes and drivers take drifting to a whole new level.
We look forward to a new season in 2014!
