Coverage from SEMA 2021

Source: Lexus
The 2022 Lexus IS 500 represents the F SPORT Performance pinnacle for the Lexus sports sedan. From the factory, the model marries a race-bred 472-hp 5.0-liter V8 with the thoughtfully executed sedan details people have come to expect from Lexus. For the 2021 SEMA Show, Lexus partnered with Hiraku Co. and Lexus ambassador, Townsend Bell, to develop a uniquely appealing street performance-themed IS 500 build.
STYLING
The IS 500’s athletic lines serve up the perfect canvas for an exterior treatment that adds presence in the form of a one-off 3D printed body kit. Designed by Hiraku Co., the kit involves a front lip spoiler, side steps, rear diffuser, front fenders, bumper canards, rear roof spoiler and rear bumper garnish, complemented by a Seibon Carbon fiber hood and trunk. Both of these products will be available to purchase through the Seibon Carbon website or our network of dealers. The body is then covered in a subtly retina-piercing vinyl body wrap that offers a modern take on the traditional Lexus spindle styling cues.
PERFORMANCE
This IS 500’s street performance envelope is expanded with a few tasteful modifications to enhance the V8’s breathing. On the induction side, sits a custom A’PEXi induction box with a TOMS Racing Carbon Fiber suction pipe. Spent fumes exit through an A’PEXi N1 Evolution Extreme Quad Ti-tip exhaust system that puts the 2UR-GSE V8’s melody on blast.
Enhanced and more sudden throttle control is also part of the mix thanks to the addition of a Shiftpower 4.0 App-controlled throttle control by Beat Sonic.
HANDLING
The sport sedan’s chassis has been stiffened for better reflexes with the help of TOMS chassis braces over the front and rear suspension. An A’PEXi N1 EXV 32-way adjustable coilover system helps keep the car planted. Rotiform LAS-R wheels with one-of-a-kind aerodisc covers add a sense of retro-modern styling. These extra-wide 20-inch wheels are wrapped in Nitto Invo rubber along with a Brembo GT braking system with custom-painted calipers to help provide the necessary stopping power.

Honda will demonstrate its diverse paths to fun and performance at the 2021 SEMA Show in Las Vegas Nov. 2-5, showcasing seven vehicles, including the debut of two all-new Civic Si race cars and a pair of rugged Honda light trucks custom-built for extreme overlanding adventures. Honda will be located at booth #25077, in the southeast corner of Central Hall at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
Building upon the thrilling performance of the all-new 2022 Civic Si, Honda Performance Development (HPD) will showcase a prototype of its next-generation turn-key Civic Si race car. Designed for Touring Car competition, it will be displayed alongside the new Team Honda Research West (THR-W) Civic Si race car, which will compete in the 25 Hours of Thunderhill endurance race December 3-5.

Fully equipped for overlanding, the Passport TrailSport Rugged Roads Project 2.0 and the Ridgeline HPD Trail Tour Project highlight the rugged capability and adventurous spirit of Honda’s light trucks. The Africa Twin Overland demonstrates the go-anywhere capabilities of Honda’s potent ADV bike when outfitted with the latest and greatest adventure gear.
Seibon Carbon is excited to announce our partnership with Team Honda Research West and the development of a custom aero-vented carbon fiber hood and a carbon fiber trunk. Both of these products will be available to purchase through the Seibon Carbon website or our network of dealers.

A new Civic Si race car built to compete in the National Auto Sports Association’s (NASA) 25-hour of Thunderhill sports car race in Northern California Dec. 3-5 will also debut at SEMA. A key example of the Honda "racing and challenging spirit" in action, the THR-W Civic Si race car was developed and tested utilizing the professional knowledge of volunteers from multiple Honda divisions involved with design, engineering, manufacturing, marketing, and finance. At Thunderhill, the modified, race-ready version of the all-new 2022 Honda Civic Si will be driven by a team of Honda associates. The team recently completed the first test of the Civic Si race car at Thunderhill in advance of the race.
Founded in 1996, THR-W team members use their experience on the racetrack to improve the design and engineering of Honda production cars and light trucks for the street. THR-W has a long record of success in racing Honda products in both Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) and NASA competition, with more than 60 race victories in a variety of classes, including a class victory at the 25 Hours of Thunderhill in 2013.

Welcome to Spotlight. Our goal is to feature customer's vehicles and shine a spotlight on their build. We are always excited to see where our products end up and how they are being used. Did you build a show car? A drift car? A time attack car? Is it bagged or static? You get to tell your story in the spotlight.
Today we are featuring John Naderi aka Nads and his EG Civic.

Seibon: Welcome Nads! Tell us a little about yourself and what you do for a living.
Nads: My name is John Naderi, better - or worse - known as “nads”, and for a living, I try to do as little as possible, but currently Hoonigan pays me beer money to be a creative director.
Seibon: You’ve been in the automotive industry longer than some of us could walk, can you give us a brief history about your journey in the car world?
Nads: Lifelong import car fanboi, raised on the Van Nuys Blvd cruise scene with time served on select sections of Sylmar’s San Fernando Road and the Mulholland Highway. Got my first break as an associate editor at Petersen Publishing’s Max Speed magazine in 1998. From there, I helped build Overboost.com, before coming back to Petersen as the editor-in-chief of Super Street, later becoming the editorial director of the International Group of magazines (remember those, kids?). Soon after, I left the cushy confines of my successful publishing career to build a digital sport compact media start-up called RiceBoyTV (that name did not age well) with a focus on YouTube videos. This was way back in ’07 (too soon, junior). Our funding dried up following the financial collapse in 2008. This led to a stint at StreetFire.net, before launching Global Time Attack and that motorsports pedigree earned me a shot to be the event director for Ken Block’s Gymkhana Grid at the X Games. I followed this up with some marketing work during Hoonigan’s early days. Because my kids have a weird thing about eating and wearing clothes, I took a job at Saatchi & Saatchi as a copywriter for all things Toyota. Sadly, most of the said things were not fun. Hoonigan’s co-founder, Brian Scotto rescued me from a Prius-filled life to bring me back to Hoonigan. While I still struggle to feed my kids, at least I can give them all the Hoonigan hoodies and tees they can wear.
Seibon: How did you get your current EG? What special meaning does it hold?
Nads: The scumbags at Hoonigan took pity on me and bought me the car after asking me what sort of Honda I would build if given the opportunity. They did all the work on their own time, I couldn’t have spec’d it better if I tried. We’re really close at Hoonigan, but this isn’t something colleagues and co-workers would do for each other. I can truly say these people are my family. I’m still feeling all at once overwhelmed, undeserving, and incredibly blessed.

Seibon: That's amazing! Glad to see you our cruising around with a smile. Any future plans or goals for the EG?
Nads: The car is perfect as it sits, but obviously, I’m at Hoonigan for a reason and I won’t be content until I completely ruin it. I really want it to be a street car that I can thrash somewhat responsibly in the canyons, with some track days (BW CW13 FTW) and some quarter-mile passes for fun. I still need to install the VTEC head and all the resultant goodies. Also want to eventually add more power, tighten up the chassis a bit and clean up the style even more. Some JDM rice would also be nice.

Seibon: How many other cars have you had? Which one has been your favorite?
Nads: These days, I’m known as a Honda guy, but before that, I was all about Toyotas. I’ve had a bunch of lifted and leveled SR5 trucks, an FX16, A70 Supra, and more. I even had a rowdy zenki DC5 BITD, but by far, my all-time favorite is my EG, because of all the love that went into it.

Seibon: Is there anyone you’d like to thank?
Nads: Everyone at the Hoonigans for this incredible gesture and all the wonderful manufacturers who participated in the build. Oh, and my lord and savior, Jesus Christ, because, at my age, I need to cover all the bases.
Seibon: Where can people find you on social media?
Nads: Are Myspace and Friendster still a thing? If not, I’m on those Instagrams @nadsynads.
Seibon: Thanks for joining us!
